Speaker: Erzhena Soktoeva
Title: What’s In A Name?
Erzhena talks about the experiment she launched after noticing that she was being ignored during webinars in the midst of the world relying exclusively on digital communication. While the results of the experiment were devastating, she shares what it taught her about inclusive design and opens a dialogue for solutions.
Erzhena is a UX design lead at Decision Theater in ASU, designing with and for researchers and policy makers to solve complex problems. She moved to the US from Russia 13 years ago, and after working in tech for over 9 years, she also found her calling in becoming a slow tech coach – helping people fight digital overwhelm and develop a better relationship with technology in their daily lives.

Speaker: Kathy Marks
Title: Accessibility – An Opportunity for Growth
How accessible is your organization’s digital content to people with disabilities? Do you use the web to communicate with customers? To attract new business? Without realizing it, your company may be missing out on a huge opportunity to reach a significant portion of the population. We’ll talk about what accessibility is, how it can benefit your organization, and easy ways you can make your digital content more accessible today!
Kathy Marks is the IT Accessibility Coordinator for the University Technology Office at ASU. She helps develop ASU’s IT accessibility guidelines and standards, testing and monitoring strategies, and educational and training efforts. She’s worked in web development for more than two decades and with ASU for over 15 years. The potential of the Internet to benefit humanity, particularly the less advantaged and people with diverse abilities, is the force that drives her work.
